The HEAL Zoo Walk is off to a great start, several teams have been formed and we are looking forward to a wonderful family and community experience together at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens. The funds raised from the HEAL Zoo Walk will stay in our community, earmarked towards Autism programs and educators on the First Coast. Local schools and educational programs are encouraged to apply for grants raised from the HEAL First Coast Zoo Walk for Autism. Sign up for this fun family event at www.firstgiving.org/HEAL

First Coast News Anchor and HEAL Board Member Patty Crosby will lead the Zoo Walk and serve as MC during our "Radio Disney after Party! Mark Skoog is starting the Spring 2009 Autism Bowling League on Saturday, April 18th at the Beaches Bowling Center on Beach Boulevard in Jacksonville Beach. This fun and non-competitive league has been a hit with the kids and their parents.

Sessions start at 12:30 in the afternoon and cost $5 per participant. The cost includes GF/CF snacks, bowling shoe rental, and an ABA therapist on hand to help. There are no age requirements for this activity, and many new friendships and support systems have been formed at previous leagues.

For more information contact Mark Skoog at Healingautismthroughbowling@gmail.com.

The HEAL/Joey Travolta Documentary in Jacksonville Film Festival

filmcamp

A documentary that was filmed last summer at The HEAL/Joey Travolta Film Camp was selected to be in the Jacksonville Film Festival. The documentary, a behind-the-scenes look at the Film Camp with commentary by DirectorJoey Travolta, will make its "World Premiere" during the Film Festival in Jacksonville the Week of May 15th-21st.

Last summer 50 kids attended the HEAL/Joey Travolta Film Camp at University of North Florida. The participants wrote, acted, directed, and produced a short film titled "Free To Be Me". Within the film, a skit was created called "Jacksonville Jr. Apprentice." Joey Travolta acting as Donald Trump directed the three teams of kids to make their own Public Service Announcements on Autism Awareness. The first of the three Public Service Announcements "Elevator of Life" is now being run on First Coast News NBC and ABC affiliates (www.firstcoastnews.com). Special thanks to Karen Sadler of FilmLab Productions for her extra efforts in her work on producing the documentary and successfully getting the film submitted and accepted into the Film Festival.
