Ridgeview High School-Fix it Crew Wins National Award

The “Fix it Crew” at Ridgeview High School recently won a national award for the fruit and vegetable garden on campus by the National Gardening Association. The Fix it Crew received a $250 gift certificate to Home Depot to continue their creative projects.  The program was designed to provide students with “hands-on” learning in a protected environment, enhance “know-how” and master vocational skills. The crew has turned a vacant, fenced in lot behind the school into an organic-as-possible garden with an herb garden, fruit orchards and grape vines. The students utilize cafeteria scraps to make fertilizer.  A $5,000 grant provided by the HEAL Foundation made this program possible.

HUG was created by Jarrad Kogos, 21-year-old with Asperger’s syndrome and survivor of pediatric brain cancer, in order to make golf more accessible to individuals with disabilities.
