Lisa Montoya was born in Jensen Beach, Florida. From an early age she showed an interest in working with children and spent her elementary and middle school days volunteering in the special education classrooms. During her high school years, she volunteered with several organizations such as: special olympics, surfers for autism, and FRIENDS choir. During Sophomore year, Lisa launched a new club, INSPIRE, that allowed students of all abilities to engage in community service and school wide activities. Lisa graduated from Jensen Beach High School with honors as well as an AA degree from the local state college.
Lisa went on to study Exceptional Student Education at Florida Atlantic University. While there she was inducted into Alpha Xi Delta and served as Philanthropy Chair. This opportunity allowed her to work closely with Autism Speaks and several local organizations in South Florida. While raising funds through various events, Lisa made it her primary goal to bring awareness to her campus and surrounding community. Her efforts qualified her for a trip to Washington DC, where she spent a week immersed in advocacy, awareness, and fundraising. She also spent time studying and lobbying for national autism bills, such as The Able Act. Lisa graduated from FAU with honors and as a certified ESE Teacher K-12.
Lisa married Matt Montoya in October 2013 and they relocated to Jacksonville several months later. She currently works as a Registered Behavior Technician with Behavior Management Consultants and continues to be involved in the autism community through various volunteer opportunities.
In her free time, Lisa enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling and is preparing for the arrival of twins this summer.Back To Board Members Page
